An update on arrangements for Wednesday's DG League event to help those planning to ride or help:
A 1.7 mile stretch of road that forms part of our Glencaple 10 course was surface-dressed last week. We have been informed by D&G Council Roads, who are aware of our event, that the road will be swept on Monday. The condition of the road will then be assessed and swept again by Wednesday if necessary. We're grateful for their help and consideration. We will carry out our usual rigorous risk-assessment procedures and check if the surface is safe to race on. If it is, we'll use the Glencaple 10 course as planned.
If the road is not safe to race on we will use a safe, alternative course which is just under 7 miles long: Glencaple - Caerlaverock - Bankend - finish on Quay Hill. This will be signposted and marshaled in the usual way.
We are unable to use any other of our 10 mile courses because we have notified Police Scotland that we are holding a time trial at Glencaple on this date. The Road Traffic Act states that this must be done at least six weeks in advance of any time trial so we can't simply shift to Collin, Kirkland or Lockerbie.
Confirmation of the course for Wednesday will be published here as soon as we are able to.

DGL 4 took place earlier this evening, as our local CTT League continues to thrive. Of all the League events so far this season this was the trickiest to pull together due to the uncertainty over whether the recent road resurfacing would settle down to allow us to use our usual 10 mile course. In carrying out the on-the-day risk assessment, it was felt that the potential risks outweighed the possible rewards so we shifted to our alternative course.
Also based at Glencaple, this 6.5 mile test (Glencaple - Caerlaverock - Bankend - Quay Hill) would provide an enjoyable wee challenge for riders, particularly given the relatively cold and windy conditions. Thanks to everyone for their patience and good humour in adapting to the late change.
Particular thanks to Fiona Ure, Alex Ure, Helen Acklam, Gordon McNeil and Stephen Martin for volunteering to help run the event. All the riders appreciate your efforts.
Representatives of DCC, Dooley's RT, Rock to Roll and CRT competed tonight. Well done to all for your excellent rides and positive attitudes! :-D

This Wednesday's club-confined TT is a 10 on the Kirkland course, which starts near Moniaive. This course was first used in 2015, since when it has been popular with riders as an enjoyably tough challenge. The course runs along the B729 from near Kirkland to Dunscore mini-roundabout and back, with the finish line arriving a quarter of a mile or so short of the start line (it's a very exciting fast finish!) Meet at the lay-by on the nearby A702 Clone Road for a start at the usual time of 7pm. www.strava.com/segments/9478887 — Dumfries CC Kirkland 10TT

This evening saw the welcome return of our club handicap league time trials, with riders and volunteers refreshed following a three week mid-season break.
The Kirkland course is a beauty on a sunny evening, but it's also a real test for the riders. It winds along the picturesque Cairn valley with some punchy wee climbs and a fairly draggy road surface. That said, conditions were excellent this evening with low pressure and fairly light winds.
Thanks to Gill McNeil and Andrew Parker for helping run the event. Points for the Handicap 10 League table will be updated again shortly - they make interesting reading!
The next event is the 5th DG League event - a 10 at Glencaple.
Emma Westmancott 30.05 Donald McCalley 27.33 Colin Little 27.24 Colin McCann 26.50 Brian Morrell 26.41 Garry Collins 26.13 Craig Kirkpatrick 26.09 Stuart Garner 25.42 David Keenan 25.40 (3rd) Gordon McNeil 24.23 (2nd) Cameron Scade 23.06 (1st + CR)

The aim of the DG League TT series, run under CTT arrangements, is to increase levels of participation and competition in time trialling in Dumfries & Galloway. The 5th event in the series of six events is a 10 at Glencaple this Wednesday evening. This is also a counting event for the DCC club handicap leagues. ⚫️We aim to set the first rider off at 7.01pm. Sign on is at the quayside car park in Glencaple from 6pm. Please park with care and consideration for local residents. ⚫️Please sign on no later than 6.40pm to allow us time to put the start sheet together in good time. The cost to ride is £3 per rider. Please bring the exact amount as change may not be available. As previously stated, membership of a CTT affiliated club is required. Riders aged 12 to 18 will need a parental consent form, available at signing on. ⚫️Volunteers are still required to help out. Remember, riders who volunteer in a league event instead of racing will be awarded their average points for the series. ⚫️The Glencaple 10 course starts (and finishes) near the foot of Kennel Hill so allow time to get there in time for your start. The course descriptor is available here: dumfriescc.btck.co.uk/RaceTT/TTCourseDescriptorsSee you there! :-)
