This Wednesday's club TT is on the Kirkland course over the user-friendly distance of 10 miles. This course was a welcome new addition to our calendar last season, proving to be an enjoyably tough challenge. The course runs along the B729 from near Kirkland to Dunscore mini-roundabout and back, with the finish line arriving a quarter of a mile or so short of the start line (it's a very exciting fast finish!) The course record is 24.24, set in June last year by C Scade - a time that looks beatable! Meet at the lay-by on the nearby on the A702 Clone Road for a start at the usual time.

Another, pleasant, sunny and dry evening in the Cairn Valley saw a strong field gather for the first Kirkland 10 of the season. With a couple of riders making their debuts and several others riding their way into good form, there was an intriguing look to the start sheet. Close knowledge of the course would help Gordon McNeil and Cameron Scade to good times on this tough and draggy course, while David Jordan was at the head of a cluster of riders posting short 26s. Jordan took 3rd place on the night, run close by last week's debutant, Gary Jamieson.
Another Jamieson, Kevin, came to take his brother on, putting in a quality ride in a time he'll aim to better next time out. New competitor David Pritchard was just in time to start and also posted a time that suggests great things ahead for him.
It was an unfortunate DNF for Garry Collins (puncture) on his long-awaited comeback from injury, while the hero of this evening's story was undoubtedly Colin Little. Little rode his bike so hard he ripped the cranks off, leaving him to ride the last mile pedalling one-legged. Hero!
Those who take part in these events are ever-mindful of the contribution of volunteers in allowing the races to take place safely. Tonight our gratitude goes to Neil Pearson, Colin Watson and Gill McNeil (on her birthday!) - thanks! Here are the times (look out for updated league tables on the website soon):
S Spellacy 28.26 C Little 30.19 G Collins DNF C McCann 26.27 B Morrell 26.36 K Jamieson 27.23 D Jordan 26.06 (3rd) G Jamieson 26.14 G McNeil 25.06 (2nd) C Scade 24.02 (1st) D Pritchard 27.45

Yesterday Alex Dowsett set a new Competition Record for 25 miles of 44-29. He averaged 33.7mph. Once he'd got his breath back, he commented, "It’s a part of the sport I really like. It’s where I got into the sport, so I try and do them when I can. I don’t do it to try and beat everyone else, but to really test myself."
Your chance to test yourself arrives next on Wednesday evening over 25 miles round Loch Ken. Meet at Glenlochar where the B795 meets the A713. It's a brilliant course that'll leave you demanding another lap! Any questions about how to take part, just ask.
A number of riders have been round the Loch in under the hour including, amongst others, Brian Young, Tommy Lockhart, John Paterson and Chris Stewart. I don't know the actual course record but would be delighted to find out. If anyone knows, please get in touch.

It was a beautiful, warm evening on the shores of Loch Ken for the second in a series of three DCC 25 mile time trials this season. A north-easterly wind would be a significant factor on the northbound section of the course up to Ken Bridge, but those present were in good spirits at the start in anticipation of taking on the renowned challenges of this classic course.
Each rider will have their own tale to tell of their lap of the loch; each rider will know where and how they could have made up time. This is the race of truth, though, so here are the Times:
D McCalley 1.10.26 A Ure 1.14.07 D Pritchard 1.06.38 G Collins 1.06.50 C Little 1.07.39 C McCann 1.09.03 D Jordan 1.06.17 C Scade 1.00.40 Thanks to Adam Mitchell and Brian Morrell for helping tonight, and also to Gordon and Catherine McNeil and Stephen McGivern for offering great support out on the course.

This Wednesday's club TT is on the Kirkland course. The weather, despite the possibility of some rain earlier in the day, looks like being warm with very light winds - providing ideal conditions for quick times. The course runs along the B729 from near Kirkland to Dunscore mini-roundabout and back, with the finish line arriving a quarter of a mile or so short of the start line.
The course record is 24.02. While this looks a soft target for others to take on, the real challenge of any time trial is in racing yourself. You'll never ever go as fast as you will with a number on your back. Ride out to the course and back and there is no better training! Meet at the lay-by on the nearby A702 Clone Road for a start at the usual time.
**Please note that the scheduled TTs on 22 June (Devil on Wheels) and 6 July (Ecclefechan) are cancelled. The rota of helpers will be adjusted accordingly. The 18-25 league will be unaffected.**
