Unfortunately, due to surface dressing on the A713 starting on Wednesday and following communication with DG Council, this week's club-confined Loch Ken TT is cancelled. This is disappointing as we had hoped to use it as a rehearsal for our Open TT on the Loch Ken course in August. I will look into the possibility or rescheduling for a different date.
The next TT, therefore, will be the Glencaple 10 on Wednesday 31 May (DG League 3).
An alternative activity for this Wednesday is being considered.

The aim of the DG League TT series, run under CTT arrangements, is to increase levels of participation and competition in time trialling in Dumfries & Galloway. The third event in the series of six events is a 10 at Glencaple on Wednesday evening. This is also a counting event for the DCC club handicap leagues. ⚫️We aim to set the first rider off at 7.01pm. Sign on is at the quayside car park in Glencaple from 6pm. Please park with care and consideration for local residents. ⚫️Please sign on no later than 6.40pm to allow us time to put the start sheet together in good time. The cost to ride is £3 per rider. Please bring the exact amount as change may not be available. As previously stated, membership of a CTT affiliated club is required. Riders under 16 will need a parental consent form. ⚫️Volunteers are still required to help out. Remember, riders who volunteer in a league event instead of racing will be awarded their average points for the series. ⚫️The Glencaple 10 course starts (and finishes) near the foot of Kennel Hill so allow time to get there in time for your start. The course descriptor is available here: dumfriescc.btck.co.uk/RaceTT/TTCourseDescriptorsSee you there! :-)

28 riders took part this evening in the third event in the DG League series, with a strong turnout from Dumfries Cycling Club along with representation from Fechan Flyers and Dooley's RT. Really good to see riders making their debut in the series and tremendous to have some time-trialling for the first time! The Glencaple 10 course is a great place to start.
Lots of great times throughout the field with numerous PBs and several exceptional performances. It's difficult to pick out standout performances, however, worthy of particular note, perhaps, are the times of Emma Westmancott, Craig Gibson and Stuart McGregor who all showed excellent improvement as they get to grips with the demands of time-trialling. Leading the way again and inspiring the riders trailing in his wake was Gavin Shirley of Dooley's RT who once again lowered the course record in a time of 22.36.
Thanks to Garry Collins, Donald McCalley, Helen Acklam, Fiona Ure. Graeme Shedden and Brian Young for giving up their time to run a safe and successful event.
Emma Westmancott 28.52 Gill McNeil 27.37 Esther Hamill 26.47 Ross Acklam 27.48 Craig Gibson 24.42 Craig Kirkpatrick 26.27 Alex Ure 26.48 Brian Morrell 25.39 Colin Little 26.15 Richard Colbeck 25.12 Stuart Garner 25.01 Graeme Hogg 26.31 Kev Jamieson 26.08 David Jordan 25.41 Brian Young 26.00 Stuart McGregor 23.40 (3rd) Gordon McNeil 24.44 Neil Pearson 24.58 Stephen Spellacy 23.43 Chris Stewart 23.38 (2nd) Gavin Shirley 22.36 (1st) Kevin Plummer 27.13 Cameron Black 29.22 David Pennington 33.53 Gary Black DNF Shaun Wylie 25.22 Kevin Earl 31.02 Adam Mitchell 30.52

Merckx TT 7th June For many years, the UCI wished to 'protect' cycling from advances in design and technology that the UCI believed to be a threat to the heritage and ethos of the sport. Part of the impact this had was in the resetting of the world hour record in 1997 from Boardman's 1996 'superman' effort to that set by Eddie Merckx in Mexico City in 1972. Anyone wishing to break the restored 'new' record would have to do so using similar equipment and a similar position to Merckx. Innovative designs like Obree's self-built bike would no longer be tolerated. Chris Boardman (pictured below) attempted to better the Merckx Hour at the end of his career. He beat the distance set by Merckx by just 10 metres! In recognition of the 'Merckx Hour', the following items of newfangled cycling sorcery are banned for this event: ⚫️Overshoes (unless it's really really raining) ⚫️Skinsuits ⚫️TT helmets. Commonly used 'aero' road helmets are fine. ⚫️TT bikes. Road bikes with 'aero' design features are fine. ⚫️Clip on TT bars ⚫️Disc wheels. Deep section carbon wheels are fine if you have them and want to use them. The event will be an individual time trial. Time bonuses and spot prizes will be awarded at the judges' discretion including for the following items: ⚫️Woolen jerseys and shorts ⚫Leather shoes and ️toe clips ⚫️Tubular tyres worn round the shoulders ⚫️Fixed gear bicycles ⚫️Bikes of noteworthy age and/or provenance *All equipment used must be in safe and roadworthy condition and a helmet must be worn.* Please note that all of this is just for fun and time bonuses are at the judges' discretion. It's still a competitive TT, though, and you'll want to ride fast. Eddie certainly would! youtu.be/nqjEvDlFqdMyoutu.be/zwyy6NuOafk
