Well done to everyone who took part in tonight's time trial! It was brilliant to welcome so many riders taking on their first TT or just starting out in the sport. We hope you all enjoyed the experience! Hopefully we can encourage and support you to come back and do it again soon. You can find details of all our events for 2018 on our website, along with information on how to join the club, if you'd like to. Our next 'Come and Try It' event is on Wednesday 16th May. Thanks to Craig Kirkpatrick, Shaun Wylie, Stuart Garner and Brian Morrell for their help this evening. Thanks also to Graeme Ward for his excellent photos. The focus tonight definitely wasn't on times or who was fastest. However...here are the times! The course was 6.5 miles long. 35 riders competed and despite very cold, blustery conditions there were excellent performances throughout the field. This week's time trial is a bit of a special one! The Beattock 25 course hasn't been used for a number of years (at least 7?) so it's kind of a test event in some ways and the course will be brand new to the majority of those who ride. In recognition of the return of this old favourite course, club legend Terry Kowalski has generously offered to provide prizes for fastest female, fastest female and fastest rider on handicap. We're really grateful to Terry for this support and thankful to Terry and Gordon Johnston (another club legend!) for remeasuring the course for us.
*Please note that this event is only open to first-claim members of DCC.*
Full details of the course and some safety points to note will be posted tomorrow. In short, though, we'll meet at the garage near the railway bridge in Beattock. The course starts on the A701 before joining the B7076 and heading for Lockerbie. The turn is at the usual 10 mile roundabout turn at Lockerbie and the finish is just a wee bit short of the junction with the A701. It's a nice course which, in theory, should be quicker than our usual 25 mile courses at Loch Ken and Glencaple. We'll see!
Any extra volunteers would be welcome in addition to those named on the Race calendar.

**Edited to include details of handicap winner**: Conditions were sunny and warm this evening for the return of the Beattock 25 mile TT for the first time since 2010. There was plenty of excitement at the prospect of riding what was a new course to the majority of those who took part. There were great performances from a number of riders. It's worth noting Donald McCalley's unfortunate puncture within 2 miles of the finish. Donald reports that this is his first DNF due to a puncture in 24 years of time-trialling! Good going, I'd say...
This was the latest event in our 18-25 handicap league. Standings will be updated and published very soon.
Thanks to Colin McCann and Colin Little for their help this evening.
I have a feeling we'll be back at Beattock in the not-too-distant future!
Winners of the prizes generously donated by Terry Kowalski are Gill McNeil (fastest female) and Andrew Parker (fastest Male). Fastest rider on handicap will be confirmed in due course. Fastest rider on handicap was Craig Gibson, who sliced a massive 6 minutes 46 seconds from his previous personal best.
Lifetime or 3 year PBs were also achieved by Ross Acklam (his first attempt at a 25), Stuart Garner, David Jordan, Sandy Laurie and Neil Pearson. Brilliant stuff!
Here are the times:
Richard Colbeck 1:06:04 Stuart Garner 1:10:44 Ross Acklam 1:18:05 Gill McNeil 1:09:11 (1st F) Donald McCalley DNF Sandy Laurie 1:08:22 John Sturgeon 1:03:36 Neil Pearson 1:01:39 (2nd M) Craig Gibson 1:02:24 David Jordan 1:02:21 (3rd M) Andrew Parker 1:01:11 (1st M)

Great fun at the Merckx TT this evening. A beautiful evening in a stunning location with good people and nice bikes. What could be better? Brilliant to see everyone getting in the spirit of the event and lovely to see all the old machines and kit. In true Mexico City Hour Record style, we had two riders on fixed gear machines: Neil Pearson won the championship mayonnaise for fastest rider and Craig Gibson rode his father's vintage 'Scot' (the bike was raced in the early 1960s) to third place.
The evening was topped off by the delightful Monsieur and Madame Vaenderton from Belgium, who graciously represented Eddie Merckx and the people of Belgium by presenting the prizes to our proud winners! We hope they enjoy the rest of their holiday. 🇧🇪
Happy travels also to the young Dutch lad cycling his way from Belfast towards home. He looked like he'd have beaten us all on his fully-laden touring bike if he'd wanted to!
Thanks very much to Stuart Garner, Sandy Laurie, Gordon McNeil and Brian Morrell for taking care of business this evening.
Here are the times: Kevin Plummer 18:12 Hazel Smyth 20:14 (2ndF) Gill McNeil 19:16 (1stF) Brian Morrell 19:23 Glenn Marland 19:28 Robert MacKenzie 19:57 Garry Collins 18:03 Richard Colbeck 18:04 John Sturgeon 17:00 (2ndM) Cameron Scade 17:56 Neil Pearson 16:45 (1stM) Cameron Black 22:54 Craig Gibson 17:45 (3rdM)
Prize winners: 🇧🇪 Neil Pearson - Championship Mayonnaise for fastest rider 🇧🇪 Gill McNeil - for donning her 1999 Scottish Mountain Bike Champion's jersey! 🇧🇪 Craig Gibson 🇧🇪 Glenn Marland 🇧🇪 Brian Morrell 🇧🇪 Cameron Black

This week's time trial is a 10 on the Lockerbie course. The start and finish of the course has been adjusted slightly from previous seasons to take account of a new mini-roundabout which has been built. In short, the start is now a little further towards Johnstonbridge and the finish is a little nearer Lockerbie.
The meeting point is, as usual, adjacent to Dinwoodie Lodge on the B7076, six miles north of Lockerbie. That's where you will sign on and collect/return your number. However, as parking is limited, if arriving by car you may need to be prepared to park elsewhere if necessary. Riders will start in the order of signing on. Sign-on is open from 6pm to 6.45pm. First rider off at 7.01pm.
**Please note that (following a period of consultation) this event will be run under CTT arrangements. Dumfries Cycling Club members will pay £2 to ride. We also welcome riders riding for other CTT affiliated clubs, who will pay £4. These arrangements will be reviewed again at the end of the season.**
As ever, help and assistance with timekeeping and marshaling would be very gratefully received.
