A good turnout of riders gathered this evening to tackle the 'new' Lockerbie 10 course. Conditions were tough for the riders, with a stiff south-westerly breeze making the outward leg a real struggle and giving some of the lighter riders particular difficulties. The jury is out on whether the new course is quicker than the old one - the conditions this evening make it hard to tell! We'll see.
This was the first of our club events to be open to riders from other clubs and we were very pleased to welcome Neil Withington of Beacon Wheelers in Cumbria along to join us.
Thanks to Emma Westmancott, Graeme Ward, Loren McNeil, Gordon McNeil and Gary Black for all their help this evening and to Andrew Parker for kindly putting the signs out on the course earlier in the day.
Next week we're at Loch Ken for a pleasant lap of the loch!
Here are the times (Dumfries CC unless stated):
Garry Collins 25:56 Glenn Marland 26:29 Brian Morrell 25:45 Sandy Laurie 26:47 Ross Acklam 28:35 Gill McNeil DNF Colin McCann DNS Richard Colbeck 25:42 Cameron Black 31:06 Neil Pearson 25:34 Stuart Garner 26:54 Craig Gibson 24:19 (3rd) Andrew Parker 23:52 (1st) Neil Withington Beacon Wheelers 24:03 (2nd) Keith Johnston 28:23 John Sturgeon 24:45 Joseph Phillips 25:27

This week's time trial (20th June) was scheduled to be at Loch Ken in what would be a handy run-through for our Open event on 18th August.
Last year we had to cancel our club event at Loch Ken in May due to surface dressing work going on. Unfortunately, it's the same this year. With this possibility in mind, when providing police notification of our races and time trials earlier this year, I gave notice of an alternative course for this date. (It's a legal requirement to provide police notification in advance to allow events of this kind to take place.)
**This week's time trial will therefore be on the 25 course around Glencaple, all being well. Final confirmation and information will follow.**

This Wednesday's time trial has been moved to the Glencaple 25 course due to roadworks at Loch Ken. Here are some points to note:
+ £2 for DCC riders, £4 for those riding for other CTT affiliated clubs. + Consent form required for under 18s. + Meet and sign on at the car park in the Crichton grounds (pictured here). It's noted on the course descriptor map. Not at Brownhall School. + Take a safe route to the start from the car park. + Sign on between 6pm and 6.45pm. Start is in the order of signing on. + Check the route descriptor on the DCC website if you don't know the course.
**Please note that (following a period of consultation) this event will be run under CTT arrangements. Dumfries Cycling Club members will pay £2 to ride. We also welcome riders riding for other CTT affiliated clubs, who will pay £4. These arrangements will be reviewed again at the end of the season.**
As ever, help and assistance with timekeeping and marshaling would be very gratefully received. An extra marshal is required to be in Glencaple.

Well...what to say about tonight's time trial at Glencaple? There's something quite grand about a 25 mile TT. There's time to think, to struggle with the inner critic telling you to slow down or speed up or whatever nonsense runs through your mind. Everyone ends up with their own stories to tell of how their effort went and how they felt. There's a sense of achievement and a small battle won that comes with finishing having given it your best. Honestly, it's great! :-)
Tonight was marked by a number of riders achieving personal best times, demonstrating great progress. We also saw a special performance from Joe Reilly of Vitus Pro Cycling who broke Gavin Shirley's course record by over 3 and a half minutes. Superb!
Thanks to Emma Westmancott, Colin McCann and Brian Morrell for their help in running the event.
Here are the times (DCC unless stated):
Hazel Smyth 1:21:44 (1st F) Ross Acklam 1:13:25 Roger McIntyre 1:04:47 Sandy Laurie 1:08:30 Brian Morrell 1:06:43 Neil Pearson 1:02:43 Cameron Scade 1:02:14 Richard Colbeck 1:07:35 Craig Gibson 1:01:50 Andrew Parker 1:01:11 (3rd M) Colin Little 1:12:29 Joseph Phillips 1:06:02 Donald McCalley 1:10:43 Stuart Garner 1:09:37 Lewis Martin Studio VELO 58:10 (2nd M) Joe Reilly Vitus Pro Cycling 54:00 (1st M +CR) Jamie Little Classic RT 62:06 John Sturgeon DNF

The Loch Ken Open Time Trial is happening again this year on Saturday 18th August. Last year was a big event and a great success but one of the main things we learned was just how much willing help is needed to make it go well. Last year we had brilliant volunteers who did a tremendous job but we were just a bit short of numbers. Please help by completing the Doodle Poll at the link below if you are willing to help us. No special skills or experience is needed and you will be given clear direction on what to do. If you would rather volunteer directly, please email racedumfriescc@gmail.com. Thanks for your support!
